Day 2   Seneca Lake to Upper Titcomb Lakes
Day 2 was even more spectacular (especially for those of us who had never visited "The Winds" before).  We realized that a group could pack lighter, for a faster trip, and hike to the Upper Titcomb Lakes in one day.  We preferred to enjoy the scenery along the way and still have time for breakfast, supper, and setting up tents in the daylight.
Island Lake.  Fremont peak is on the right of the picture, with Dinwoody Pass the low point on the horizon at the center of the picture.  The trail goes around the lake on the right (South side) and continues through the pass across the lake to the Titcomb Basin Trail.  There's a beautiful sandy beach at the South end of the lake, but the water was about 35 degrees!
Our campsite at the end of Day 2 was between the two Upper Titcomb Lakes, overlooking the stream between the two.  The picture is a view North, from our campsite, toward Dinwoody Pass.  The ice in the lake was breaking up and gradually entering the stream to the lower lake, sounding like chimes headed downstream.  And the roar of the waterfall across the lake provided perfect background music for our base camp!  Note Dinwoody Pass in the background.
The sights and sounds and spectacular views of this route to Gannett Peak make the trip well worth the effort.  Barbara Lake, Hobbs Lake, the Seneca Lakes, Island Lake and the Titcomb Lakes are all "like living in a post card".  And all the trails, hills, valleys and breathtaking scenery along the way make this a trip you will remember always.

By the way --

When you're between the Upper Titcomb Lakes, be sure to look up at the clock on the West face of Fremont Peak (you can't miss it) - - it's always 3:05.
